The Smokin’ Section’s first visit to the Westmount Country Club since ’07 was for Anthony and Lindsay’s wedding reception on a slightly humid afternoon in the middle of May. The hip, contemporary ambience of the Westmount’s main Ballroom provided the scene for a great party. The happy couple’s first dance (performed by our guitarist/vocalist Mikey with accompaniment by the band) was Jack Johnson’s “Better Together”.

From there, the bride and groom cut right into a surprising and very funny dance routine set to the musical backdrop of the ReMarqable Remix of “Let’s Get Married” by Jagged Edge and Run (of Run DMC). It featured some wild break-dancing by the groom.

Lindsay then danced with her father to “Through The Years” and Anthony followed for his turn with his mom to Bryan Adams’ “Everything I Do (I Do For You)”. After the maid of honor, the best man and the bride’s father all made speeches, the guests got on the dance floor to “The Way You Look Tonight”.

Later on, the crowd dug into an extended medley of current hits, including our versions of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” & Lady GaGa’s “Just Dance” (both sung by our vocalist Rhonda) and Akon’s “Right Now Na Na Na (sung by Tommie). The dancers later got into our disco and funk and Motown and soul featuring “Love Train”, “Proud Mary” and “Dance To the Music”.

This was our first time working with the photographers from the Bleu Studio and videographer Tim Lawrence from IMR Films, and it was a lot of fun. Thanks to the expert efforts of maitre’d Karen and her staff at the Westmount and also bridal & event consultant/designer Limor DePetro from Koru Event Design, Anthony and Lindsay’s big day ran smoothly and without a hitch. Many of their guests even enjoyed a photobooth from NJPhotobooths.com throughout the afternoon.
In the last set, the energy of the dancers reached a peak with a high energy rock medley of “You Shook Me”, “What I Like About You” and “Livin’ On A Prayer”. For the reception’s finale, the Smokin’ Section performed a special request that we learned specially for Anthony and Lindsay and their friends, Toto’s eighties mega-hit “Africa”. It was a great ending to a fun afternoon; during the song so many of their guests were singing along with the chorus that it almost drowned out the band!
