It was a beautiful and unseasonably cool summer Friday afternoon for the Smokin’ Section’s first visit to the Grand Colonial, an exciting new addition to Hunterdon County’s wedding & banquet facilities and special event locations.

Susan and Kerry’s guests had a great chance to enjoy the fantastic weather during the ceremony, which was held outside in the field near the hall. The couple were married under a gazebo and the music was supplied by our pianist Ted. After they were officially pronounced man and wife, Kerry and Susan walked back down the aisle to “How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You”

Their first dance was Bruce Springsteen’s “If I Should Fall Behind”, sung by our guitarist Mikey Del. Susan then danced with her mother to “What A Wonderful World” followed by Kerry and his mom dancing to our rendition of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man”. After that, the best man Chris offered a funny yet heartfelt toast. We eased the guests onto the dance floor with a medley of ‘50s favorites including “In The Still Of The Night”, “Georgia On My Mind” and “Only You”.

The guests loved Classic rock, and our version of the Boss’ “Glory Days” really got them going. One of the guests, Ken, guested with the band and got the crowd worked up by singing 2 exciting tunes, “American Girl” and “Hard To Handle”. The crowd really danced up a storm to our Smokin’ Section version of Steve Earle’s “The Galway Girl”, which was a special request from the bride and groom. It was our pleasure to work across from noted photojournalist and special event photographer Jeff Tisman, and the Grand Colonial’s Daniel Goldblatt (who is the third generation in a distinguished NJ catering family) ran a very smooth party. People were bopping around the floor to the Smokin’ Section’s takes on the favorites from the ’80s, “Footloose” and “Walking On Sunshine”. The bridesmaids (and many other guests) got into a medley of current club tunes played by the band, including Justin Timberlake’s “Sexy Back”, Rhianna’s “Don’t Stop The Music” and Lady GaGa’s “Just Dance”.

We reprised “If I Should Fall Behind” to end the evening and this time around all the guests joined Susan and Kerry on the dancefloor.

The Band helped make it a great night for all the guests at Susan and Kerry’s wedding. Very professional, knowing just what numbers to play during the course of the festivities, with some great interludes by individual players. Being able to pull from just about anything in the songbook, they really did a great job. I’d recommend them for any type of wedding, any type of music. They can do it all!
