On Friday September 7th, the Smokin’ Section visited the Westmount Country Club, perennially one of Northern New Jersey’s most popular banquet facilities and party spots. On this balmy late summer afternoon, Sheila and Kevin had their ceremony in the beautiful garden area out front, and our pianist supplied stately classical music for that portion of the afternoon/evening. After that, the party adjourned to the front lounge for cocktail hour, again featuring our pianist/keyboardist Ted, but this time on the Westmount CC grand piano.

For the reception, the festivities moved to the Continental Room, with a beautiful view from the top of the mountain just to the side of the bandstand where the Smokin’ Section regaled the crowd. Sheila and Kevin have a wide range of musical tastes, and one of them is contemporary country music. The Smokin’ Section learned and performed Keith Urban’s “Making Memories of Us”, for the couple’s first dance as man and wife. After that, Kevin and Sheila did a simultaneous parents dance to Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me”. During the band’s first set, the dance floor filled up for a medley of Sinatra favorites.
Other special requests that the band did for Sheila and Kevin’s occasion included Ray LaMontagne’s “Trouble”, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s “It’s Your Love” and Jerry Vale’s “Mama” (for Sheila’s grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary).
Later on the dancers had fun mixing it up out on the floor with our guitarist Mikey. It was great working with Sheila throughout the planning process. We enjoyed playing for the new Mr & Mrs Fischer and their guests on that early September evening and hope to see Sheila and Kevin at another party again sometime soon.
